Your first morning takes in an ancient gorge overlooking McLaren Vale, where you’ll learn its indigenous history, see native animals and immerse yourself in a landscape that dates back 600 millions years. This is a 6km loop walk that crests the perimeter of the gorge, then descends to the bottom of the gorge, follows the river downstream and then takes in two stunning waterholes.

In the Afternoon we’ll move to a famous vineyard alongside the gorge owned by Toby Bekkers, one of the stars of McLaren Vale winemaking.

We’ll take a walk of the property with Toby, to learn about the rejuvenation program they’ve put in place. Finish with a stunning tasting, matched to a BBQ of local meats.

Your second day starts with a visit to hallowed ground, walking one of Australia’s famous wine estates. For many years Hickinbotham provided Shiraz into Penfolds Grange, and it now boasts some of Australia’s best single estate wines.

We walk the property, follow a streep cut of the country from ridgetops above the village of Clarendon to the Onkaparinga River in the gorge below. This walk includes some of the most elevated vineyard sites in McLaren Vale, with spectacular views across the wine region.

After vineyard and and river tour, guests are invited to Hickinbotham’s private chateau, “The Wine House”. First,  how Hickinbotham Vineyard has become a part of Australia’s wine heritage. Then, as guests of Coast & Co., you’ll savour a private and exclusive tasting of Hickinbotham Wines, with a lunch of local produce.

For dinner, enjoy a feast at one of the region’s most iconic pubs.
